Fortunately, look no further than ScanKomfort for your ideal bed. Inspired by simple Scandinavian living and our extensive 50 years of experience, we constantly strive to create the best products with carefully selected materials, with the aim of providing them at the most affordable prices.

2.1.  A Brief Introduction To ScanKomfort By Scanteak

At ScanKomfort, we aim to introduce a premium sleep experience for everyone and anyone. That is because we believe a beautiful sleep is as essential as a restful sleep, and a good night’s sleep should never be out of reach.

This belief is built upon our people-oriented brand values, where we believe that people are as vital to creating a home as our products. Therefore, we constantly aim to discern consumer trends and understand our customers’ needs and what appeals to them. This way, we can create premium mattress designs that foster a warm, inviting, and restful environment for all.

2.2. ScanKomfort: An Overview Of Our Materials And Technology

Infographic of mattress materials

At ScanKomfort, we are dedicated to providing premium yet affordable mattresses. Of course, we will be delighted to share what makes our products stand out. However, please note that some features are not applicable to all our mattresses.

1. Design

Let us start with the design. The aim is to create a premium mattress that not only looks good but also feels comfortable to sleep on. To achieve this goal, our products feature a thick foam border encasing their central spring support to reduce the likelihood of sagging and/or mattress border breakdown.

Meanwhile, our euro-top mattresses are designed with extra padding on one side of the mattress for added comfort. This feature also means you need not flip your mattress over frequently to keep the comfort fillings evenly distributed. Nevertheless, we still recommend rotating it from time to time.

2. Springs, Latex, Support Systems

The support core, located beneath the comfort layers, prevents you from sinking too far into your mattress, keeping your spine as neutrally aligned as possible. Specific support cores even feature special zones offering additional structure in areas to bear more body weight. At ScanKomfort, you have various options to choose from.

Traditionally, spring support mattresses tend to feature Bonnell springs. These springs are hourglass-shaped coils attached to a single top and bottom mesh layer. A durable border wire is used on both mesh layers to retain the bed shape. In the case of some of our products, they feature Bonnell springs made from heat-tempered high-carbon steel wire.

While Bonnell springs are lightweight, inexpensive, and capable of providing adequate comfort during sleep, they do not offer targeted support and motion-dampening functions. As such, we often recommend that customers seeking a more premium sleeping experience opt for our pocket spring mattresses.

The individually wrapped springs in pocket spring mattresses move independently of each other, ensuring each spring lasts longer and reducing motion transfer for undisturbed sleep. You can even select your ideal intensity (adjusted by the number of coils in each spring) to provide targeted support across various zones of your body.

Speaking of zone support, you can also choose between our 3-zone or 7-zone support system. The former features pocketed springs of three varying intensities to provide targeted support for your shoulders, hips, and lower back. Meanwhile, as the latter’s naming convention suggests, a 7-zone support system offers more targeted support for various parts of the body – head, neck, shoulder, back, hip, legs, and feet. This option is recommended for those who sleep on their back most of the time.

3. Padding

As the primary determinant of your bed’s comfort, choosing the correct mattress padding is paramount. At ScanKomfort, our premium mattresses offer the following padding options.

Option 1: Cold Foam

A high-density polyurethane foam, cold foam is durable and highly elastic, making it ideal for following the body’s contours while providing comfort and support. Furthermore, it is less porous than regular foam. As a result, less dust and dirt are trapped within.

Options #2: High-Density Foam

High-density foam is durable and offers exceptional performance and compression to provide adequate support. It also minimises heat retention and motion transfer, making it a popular choice in bedding and sofas.

Option #3: Visco-Elastic Memory Foam

Visco-elastic memory foam is one of the latest developments in furniture and bedding, combining density and viscosity to provide a ‘weightless’ sensation without compromising on body support. Meanwhile, the memory foam softens in reaction to body heat, allowing it to detect and conform to your body’s contours during sleep.

Option #4: Organic Latex

The elasticity of latex allows the mattress to conform pleasantly to your body shape. As such, it is a popular choice for back and side sleepers. Additionally, its open-cell natural structure provides excellent air circulation and breathability, helping to regulate and maintain a comfortable sleeping environment.

Rest assured that our premium latex mattresses are made of 100% natural latex tapped from sustainable plantations in Malaysia. Furthermore, our latex materials are non-vulcanised, meaning you need not worry about sleeping on chemicals such as petroleum (a common ingredient mixed into latex) or more harmful substances like sulphur or bleach (used to obtain a pure white appearance).

4. Upholstery and Fabrics

Likewise, you can choose from numerous upholstery and fabric options to complement your high-quality mattress.

Option #1: Anti-Bac Upholstery

Our anti-bacterial upholstery has been thoroughly sanitised and undergone stringent testing to reduce bacterial build-up, thus minimising the chances of allergic reactions. Perfect for those with allergies.

Option #2: Anti-Dust Mite

Mattresses with covers that cannot be washed have been sanitised against bacteria and fungus for a hygienic sleeping environment.

Option #3: Anti-Mould

Upholstery with anti-mould properties features more breathable fabrics to facilitate ventilation, minimising the risk of mould and mildew accumulating on your premium mattress.

Option #4: Aloe Vera

Our mattress fabrics are either finished with an aloe vera infusion or have aloe vera fibres woven into the upholstery. Due to its fibrous nature, aloe vera offers an organic alternative that helps reduce mattress odours and helps with heat dissipation. These fabrics are also preferable for those with sensitive skin, as their anti-allergenic properties and lightweight nature discourage moisture retention, which encourages the formation of mould and mildew.

Option #5: Removable And Washable Covers

Our German mattress covers are washable up to 60 degrees Celcius with mild detergent, eliminating the need for chemicals that prevent the accumulation of mould, bacteria, or dust mites. They are an ideal choice for children and the elderly.

Option #6: Climate Fibre

Climate fibre, a composition of structural fibres such as polyester and other man-made polymers, offers quick moisture wicking for an optimum sleeping surface. It also features thermal bridging technology to efficiently prevent temperature fluctuations during slumber, thus enhancing sleep quality.

Option #7: Fibre F.A.N. Comfortfill®

Developed in Germany in the 1950s, Comfortfill® is a branded fibre featuring a siliconised, polyester-based hollow fibre filling, which aids in temperature regulation for better sleep quality. Additionally, in conjunction with a skin-friendly pure cotton fabric, Comfortfill® provides more volume, making it softer to the touch.

Option #8: Medicott®

Medicott® utilises anti-static fabric to prevent the accumulation of dust and the development of mould and bacteria. It also maintains a dry microclimate, which helps reduce moisture retention and encourage heat dissipation.

PART 3 – EXPLORING SCANKOMFORT’S MATTRESS COLLECTIONS

Of course, when it comes to buying a high-quality mattress, look no further than ScanKomfort. However, identifying your ideal type of mattress that suits your requirements can still be challenging, given our comprehensive mattress collection caters to varying sleeping needs. Well, fret not! Allow us to explain the broad overview of each mattress type in our collection and its benefits to help you make an informed purchase.

3.1. An Overview Of Our Chiro-Care Support Mattresses

Image of chiro-care support mattress

Orthopaedic mattresses are becoming increasingly prevalent as people become more aware of their benefits. Nevertheless, an outstanding question still remains among many: what sets an orthopaedic mattress apart from other types of mattresses?

Firstly, you should be aware that orthopaedic does not simply equate to an extra-firm mattress. Instead, these specialised mattresses are designed to promote spinal alignment and relieve pressure points, offering exceptional support and comfort to promote better sleep quality and overall well-being.

With our chiro-care support mattress, you can wake up feeling rejuvenated and free from the discomfort associated with an unsupportive bed, making the mattress beneficial for those suffering from back pain or want to enhance their sleep quality.

Benefit #1: Reduce Muscle Tension

Our chiro-care support mattresses include innovative materials, like memory foam and natural latex, that conform to your body’s contours and promote spinal alignment, which is essential for relieving pressure points, muscle tension, and aches. They also help enhance blood circulation, allowing you to sleep peacefully through the night.

Benefit #2: Provide Comfort And Support

The high-density foam present in our orthopaedic mattresses ensures your body weight is distributed evenly during sleep. Our Traum Betten mattress, in particular, features individually pocketed springs that have been coiled twice as much as the industry standard, providing a level of support that is not possible with a conventional bed.

Benefit #3: Motion Isolation

Our orthopaedic mattresses are designed to minimise motion transfer with individually wrapped pocket springs, meaning users are less likely to be disturbed by their partner’s movements during the night. Perfect for those with a partner who loves to toss and turn during sleep.

3.2. An Overview Of Our CoolTemp Cooling Mattresses

Image of CoolTemp cooling mattress

Our bodies naturally produce heat, even when we are sleeping. When our body temperature gets too hot, it is more challenging for us to get comfortable, resulting in a constant shifting of sleeping positions that generates even more heat. As a result, we find it difficult to fall asleep. This issue worsens in hot and humid climates, like Singapore, or for those experiencing hot flashes or night sweats. If you are a hot sleeper with similar experiences, you need a mattress that sleeps cool.

Our CoolTemp cooling mattresses utilise advanced CoolTech technology to reduce the mattress’s temperature by 2 to 3°C, with fabric knitted with highly breathable materials for maximum air ventilation. This feature prevents the trapping of body heat and helps dissipate excess heat, thus promoting undisturbed, quality sleep.

Benefit #1: Support Deeper Sleep

A high body temperature can make falling asleep more challenging, disrupting your sleep cycle and making for groggy mornings. With our cooling mattress to keep you cool and dry during sleep, you can enjoy a peaceful slumber without feeling muggy and hot.

Benefit #2: Promote Energy Savings

At first glance, purchasing a new cooling mattress might not seem related to energy savings. However, you will find hot nights easier to beat when your new mattress is working in tandem with your ceiling fan to keep you cool during sleep. As a result, you will find it easier to resist turning on the air conditioner, helping you to save on your utility bills in the long term.

Benefit #3: Relieve Night Sweats

Whether it is due to the weather, anxiety, or sleeping disorders, dealing with night sweats can be annoying and make attaining a restful sleep almost impossible. Our cooling mattresses can help alleviate some of the heat the night sweats bring on, ensuring you feel minimal discomfort as you slumber.

Benefit #4: Draw Heat Away From Your Partner

As a hot sleeper, trying to attain a restful slumber is often challenging enough. Add your partner’s body heat into the equation, and you might find it nearly impossible to fall asleep. Fortunately, you can sleep next to the warmest person and still keep cool, with our cooling mattress working diligently to draw heat away from you and your spouse.

3.3. An Overview Of Our Pocket Spring Mattresses

Image of pocket spring mattress

When in doubt, the safest option for users is to purchase our pocket spring mattresses. That is because this mattress type offers the most flexibility in terms of support, comfort layers, and durability. From our basic, affordable collection to our premium German mattresses, you can be assured of a well-engineered sleep.

In fact, our pocket spring mattresses are best for offering high levels of comfort and support without suffering from the roll-off feeling. As a result, users can enjoy a higher level of isolated support. You can choose between 3-zone and 7-zone spring tensions, providing less or more pressure where the body requires it.

Benefit #1: Unparalleled Support From Independent Springs

Due to the unique construction of the pocket spring, each coil is individually encased in fabric pockets and reacts independently of the next spring, unlike the Bonnell coil. This design ensures the springs respond precisely to the exact pressure applied, resulting in unparalleled support that adjusts to the contours of your body, providing a customised sleeping experience.

Benefit #2: Prevent Motion Transfer

The independent movement of each pocketed coil also ensures that disturbances are localised, preventing motion transfer. So, when your partner shifts or gets in and out of bed, the effects are contained to a specific area of the pocket spring mattress where the movement occurs. This feature is especially beneficial in helping you achieve an undisturbed and peaceful night’s sleep if you are a light sleeper or your partner has a differing sleep schedule.

Benefit #3: Tailored Support Based On Body Weight

Traditional mattresses usually distribute pressure uniformly. As such, those with varying weight distribution may find sleeping on such beds uncomfortable. Conversely, our pocket spring mattresses are available in various firmnesses, from soft, medium, to firm, allowing them to adapt to the weight placed on them and offer targeted support where it is needed most.

This feature is made possible due to the pocket springs’ capacity to respond independently to body weight. As a result, you can choose from various spring tensions based on the number of coils in each spring, allowing you to select one that is specifically designed to work with your body weight.

Benefit #4: Long-Lasting

Longevity is an essential consideration when investing in a premium mattress, and our pocket spring mattresses offer exactly that! Each spring is wrapped in its individual pocket, preventing warping and keeping it upright. Meanwhile, our mattresses come with a protective foam casing around the perimeter, allowing you to sleep all the way up to the edge of the bed without experiencing any spring sagging.

3.4. An Overview Of Our Chemical-Free Mattresses

Image of chemical-free mattress

When it comes to purchasing a brand-new mattress, ensuring the product is chemical-free may not always be at the top of a person’s priority list. However, avoid underestimating the harmful off-gassing effects produced by unsafe materials found in conventional mattresses and their impact on your body and the environment.

To safeguard yourself and your family from toxic substances, like petroleum-based foams and fire-retardant chemicals, we recommend switching to our collection of chemical-free mattresses. Not only do they feature natural fibres, but they are also equipped with removable covers that can be machine-washed for a cleaner, safer sleep.

Benefit #1: Reduce Allergies

Your mattress is often the prime culprit for your allergies acting up during sleep. Beyond dust mites and the presence of other allergens, the substances found in traditional petroleum-based foam beds may emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can cause skin irritation and respiratory issues.

Switching to our chemical-free mattresses can alleviate these symptoms, preventing any allergic reaction or breakout from disrupting your sleep. Moreover, these mattresses are made with hypoallergenic materials, which repel common allergens like dust mites.

Benefit #2: Beneficial To Your Health

Given that you spend about a third of your life sleeping, having a chemical-free mattress is necessary to reduce your health risks significantly. Rest assured that our chemical-free mattresses are made from natural latex. Therefore, they are void of VOCs, many of which are carcinogenic.

Benefit #3: More Breathable

The added benefit of having a natural latex mattress is its open-cell structure, which allows air to circulate freely through the mattress. This inherent design, along with latex’s natural temperature-regulating properties, helps dissipate heat and moisture, allowing you to maintain a comfortable and consistent sleeping environment, even during warmer nights. As a result, you are less likely to experience discomfort associated with a high body temperature, which can potentially disrupt your restful slumber.

Benefit #4: Ease of Mind

Do not underestimate the ease of mind that a removable and washable cover can bring. In addition to keeping your mattress cover free of environmental dust, dust mites, bed bugs, and other harmful microorganisms, you need not worry about accidents or spills staining your mattress, as you can wash the cover immediately if an incident occurs.

PART 4 – BEST PRACTICES FOR MAINTAINING YOUR SCANKOMFORT MATTRESS

4.1. How To Maintain Your ScanKomfort Mattress

Image of a woman arranging the bed

Even premium mattresses require care and attention if you want to foster a healthier, more comfortable, and longer-lasting sleep environment, and it is no different with our mattresses. Let us share how to maintain your ScanKomfort mattress to ensure its cleanliness and longevity.

1. Receiving Your New Mattress

We always recommend that our customers air their mattresses for at least four hours upon receiving their brand-new mattresses. Doing so helps remove any storage odours.

2. Mattress Maintenance

Rest assured that our mattresses come clean. However, maintaining its cleanliness is up to you. Here is what you can do.

Change Bed Linens Frequently

Everyone perspires during sleep, and this moisture could encourage bacterial growth. Therefore, it is recommended to change your bed linen once every week to a fortnight. Doing so allows you to air your mattress and reduces the risk of bacteria breeding. You can also take this opportunity to vacuum the bed to eliminate remnants of dirt and dead skin left over after removing the covers.

Clean Spills And Dirt

Accidents can happen. When a spill occurs, the most important thing to do is to attend to it immediately. For spills on mattresses without removable covers, a mixture of baking soda and water on a 1:1 ratio applied with a soft brush can help. Afterwards, dry the spot using a hair dryer. We recommend maintaining a distance of around 20cm from the surface and avoiding high heat, as this might compromise other materials.

Wash Mattress Covers Regularly

Our German mattresses come with removable covers for easy maintenance. Moreover, they are machine washable and dryer safe. So, you can place them in a washing machine with mild detergent and water up to 60 degrees Celsius. Subsequently, you can put the covers in the dryer for hassle-free drying.

3. Good Habits To Maintain For A Longer-Lasting Mattress

Habit #1: Rotate Your Mattress Regularly

We recommend rotating your mattress every two to three months to ensure the pressure is spread evenly, especially if you purchase a pocket spring mattress. This way, you minimise focusing pressure on a singular area, thus preventing your bed from sagging. Mattresses that can be flipped should also be turned over occasionally.

Habit #2: Avoid Lying Down On Your Bed After A Shower Or When Perspiring

Please avoid lying on your bed after a shower or when perspiring, as the moisture from the body could encourage bacterial growth.

Habit #3: Do Not Smoke, Drink, Or Eat On The Bed

Never smoke or consume food and drinks on the bed, as smoke and food particles can slip through bed linens and remain trapped in the mattress. When this happens, it can encourage the growth of bacteria, attract pests, and cause long-lasting odours.

Habit #4: Sun Your Mattress

Sunlight is beneficial for your mattress since it helps eradicate bacteria and eliminate any excess moisture. That is especially true if you switch on the aircon regularly, as condensation can build up once the aircon is turned off.

Habit #5: Keep Your Bedroom Well-Ventilated

Keep your windows and the bedroom door open to encourage ventilation in the room. Doing so can minimise the build-up of moisture and odours. You can also reduce moisture using charcoal or other anti-moisture agents.

Habit #6: Avoid Sitting On The Edge Of The Mattress.

Even high-quality mattresses can suffer from uneven weight and pressure distribution without proper care. One way to prevent this is to avoid sitting on the mattress edge, as it can cause some springs to wear out quicker than others.

Habit #7: No Jumping On The Bed

Likewise, repeated point pressure applied in excess, such as jumping on the bed constantly, can compromise your mattress’s integrity, resulting in sagging. Such actions can also damage your bed frame.

Habit #8: Do Not Drag Your Mattress

Your mattress may have to be shifted during cleaning or when changing the linens. In these situations, avoid dragging your mattress, as this can damage its upholstery, which is meant to protect the inner structure.

Habit #9: Do Not Store Your Mattress On Its Narrow Side

Avoid propping your mattress against the wall on its narrow side, as this can create uneven pressure, especially for pocket spring mattresses.
